Good Afternoon,

In September we are beginning our basement remodel. So the entire LARGE room (half of the house) will be broken into a TV / Computer room, and the other half will be my sewing studio.

I'm excited to have a new space that isn't concrete walls and floor. But am just looking for suggestions for things you just feel you HAVE to have to make your sewing space work for you.

The standard machine and notions goes without saying. But what gadgets, storage options, or other suggestions would you have?

My big change will be having a dedicated outlet for my iron...woohoo! But anything else you can suggested while I'm in the planning stages would be helpful. :)

LUCKY YOU - I just wish I had a place besides my dining room table to work on (after I have to ask someone to drag out my heavy OLD machine & put on the table - I'm 77 & can't lift it anymore) I've learned to 'live without' A LOT!!

Oh well, one of these days maybe

Two Numero Unos .... a permanent large design wall and bright clear daylight lighting!

Something I don't have, room to walk around my cutting/sewing/layering table. I have a huge table my husband made but it is in a corner so I only have access to two sides.

DIfferent stations for different tasks so it forces you to get up and move around AND your sewing space doesn't become a mountain of clutter (speaking from experience). Similar to a kitchen, the flow of these stations needs to work.

GOOD LIGHTING!!!! It really stinks when the light casts a shadow or glare on the ruler.

Storage to suit your personal style. I am a visual person, so having things behind closed doors gives me grief (I NEED TO SEE MY STUFF) but people who like things neat and tidy would not like their stuff exposed.

Storage, definitely good lighting, cutting table/area.

I would like more storage, room for a design wall, bigger ironing board, and better lighting if I were to makeover/move to a new room.

enough different types of storage spaces - book shelves, fabric buckets or something, thread organizers, ruler and cutting mat space.

enough table space to spread out your quilts while sewing and quilting without them draping off the table.

If I can't see it I forget I have it...so opened shelves and clear containers, peg board to hang things, a clock, music...lots of light
