I am trying to decide if I want to use more of the same fabric that started with to make the octagon blocks as a border or would it better to use just brown.
The example is scap I had left over - turned different ways...do you like either of those (straight ones of course!) or the brown? |
I like the brown. The other one in my opinion takes your eyes FROM the actually quilt. But then that is just me. But I vote for the brown one. And that is a very pretty quilt.
|
I vote brown too. I think the print fabric makes the blocks kind of blur together. Keep it simple!

Great quilt!
Usually I like to see the virgin fabric in the border. Though in your quilt, I think the plain brown frames it nicer. ITA with the others that the print pulls away from the octagons. I'd really encourage you to include some of the original fabric in the backing as a reference of where it all started! |

I'm going to be the descenter. I'd like to see a narrow brown and then a wider green print with brown binding. The brown alone doesn't do it for me. I think the lighter border highlights the creams in the quilt blocks.
|
I like the brown border but how about using the original fabric for the binding?
|
What would it look like if you did two borders a brown border 1st than the pattern on the outside. I know it may be more work, but worth thinking about.
|
It's also very effective when you do a portion of the border with the original .... a narrow brown inner border (eg 2 inches wide), the next border is mostly brown but with strips of the pattern - maybe framing 2 of the corners going down about a third of the length of the quilt (4 inches wide), then another strip the same as the narrow inner border (2 inches wide).

I think irish rose may be on to something. I think a border of brown and then the print, then brown binding would stand out nicely!
