Spent a few hours cutting and sewing and so far managed to do 4 x 10inch blocks.
I am thinking maybe doing size 5 x 4 wide ie 50 x 40" for my frist attempt, the perfect size for me to snuggle up on the couch with in winter. What ya think?? Any tips greatly accepted . Should I press each strip first before attaching to make the block? Sue  |
Great going so far! Love the fabrics

Looks very nice and I'm impressed that this is a "first". You're doing a great job. I am a big believer in pressing and think that it makes the sewing go much better.

Good job!
I've learned to press as I go. Each seam. It does take more time, but I find my blocks come out so much better in the end. |
great job very pretty

I did press the first block attmepted yesterday but found some strips stretched and ended up unpicking , is this due to running the iron rather than dabbing the seams?, if you can understand lol

Sue  For best results "press" (not iron) every seam, as you go ... and then it continues to get re-pressed as you do the next seams. That is a two part process .... first you "set the seam" (press seam as it lays after you sew it) then the second step, is to press the seam so it lays flat as it will in the finished quilt. You'll be all the more thrilled with your results if you take the time to do this little extra, as you go. |
Love you fabric choices. Keep going, it will be gorgeous. Just keep it in your mind that people look at quilts as a whole. Don't sweat the small stuff.
