When your machine quilting your quilt how do you determine the color thread your going to use when there are a variety of colors ranging from dark to light?? Thanks

It totally depends on if I want the quilting to show a lot or very little. Varigated is a good way to go, but it is a personal prefference.

I try to use a neutral gray or beige depending on the quilt colors. Sometimes I'll even use black on a light quilt if that's the look I want. Kind of Amish.

Thanks for the feedback. Never heard of varigated. What is that?

Varigated is a thread that changes colors every inch or so. I am using varigated for the first time on a quilt I am machine quilting now, and am quite happy with the look.

You might try a mid-tone thread. That way it shows on both the dark and light fabrics. I love varigated thread, but when you have a range of values you'll "lose" it visually in the places where, for instance, the dark part of the thread is on a dark fabric.

Try pooling some loose threads over the top, then stand back and see what looks best to you.

Thanks Karen. I will try that.
