does anyone use glue to help hold their binding before sewing? I hate pinning binding, and wondered if I used a glue stick to glue the binding would work?

I use fusible thread in my bobbin and then all I have to do is press and the binding is held in place perfectly so it's easy to stitch. No pins, clips, or glue to mess with.

I use regualr elmer's school glue. I went to Hobby Lobby and got a pack of metal screw on fine tips..I use a corsage pin that I keep it cleaned out with when it gets clogged. Works like a charm and washes out. =)

I have never heard of fusibile thread. i need to look that one up...thanks!! And yup I use Elmers glue stick when I am not handsewing the quilt. I find when I hand sew I do not need pins, or glue but when machine sewing I need one or the other.

I wouldn't use a glue stick, since it can gunk on the needle. I use a very small dispenser and make a tiny line of glue inside the seam, and secure it by pressing. I then sew on the binding. Then I add another tiny row inside the seam again if I will attach the binding on the other side by machine. If doing it by hand you don't have to be so careful about the tiny line of glue.

This is an awesome tutorial that will show you how Sharon Schamber does it with Elmer's School Glue.

What is fusible thread? And where do you get it from? Interesting. I personally started using the school glue. It may take a little extra time, but its worth not getting stuck with pins.

I use Elmer's School Glue (washable). Just a very thin line of glue then set with the iron and sew away. :D

I use hair clips to hold the binding on. Works well for me.
