I needed to mark a dark blue quilt for quilting, and went to the fabric store and asked the gal what she recommended. She said that she used what she called a chalk roller. It is compact, being only about 4 inches long and the diameter of a tube of lipstick. It is filled with loose chalk, and comes in white and blue, and is dispensed when you press it to the fabric and roll it along. In the opening are small teeth, that allow small amounts of the chalk to come onto your fabric. I have never seen anyone comment about something like this, so just thought I would share. It has been my salvation with quilting this dark quilt. And you can buy the chalk to refill it.

You can see to the right of the marker, where I drew some lines with the marker. This is an awesome tool.

I have used this to mark cut lengths on drapes. I just got one to try on quilts. I haven't opened it yet. I'm wondering if you can mark circles. Have you tried to make a circle yet?

I used them for a long time ... you can also get it in pink and yellow. Because it's chalk, it's not the finest of lines and too, it brushes off, if you're not careful. Works pretty slick, and does a good job.

For a really fine line, I've been using the Frixion markers.

yes i like it

I like it too. I have it in blue and yellow. You can see the chalk just about disappear as you sew over it. It's a really nice "marker" if you need to do a quick line that is easy to get rid of.

For fine lines, I've been using Sewline pencils. They are pricey compared to the Chaco Liner.

I am use to using it for sewing. It gives a nice fine line.
