Can't find beginning of thread
Can't find beginning of thread on my Auriful spool. I haven't had this happen before. HELP??
|
I'm just using my first Aurifil and did not have that problem .... now as for Gutterman, I often do!
So, look forward to any secrets from others as to how to solve the puzzle when it happens .... without destroying the thread! |
found it finally! it was at the very bottom. I don't recall that being a problem on the other spools I bought.

You can remove the orange spool on the bottom. That is where I find the end. The spool slips back on.

And I hate it when I can't find the end of the thread, celo tape, saran wrap, or toilet paper!! |
I'm not familar with Aurofil, but some generic fixes:
IF the end is not wrapped into a notch, fold a piece of tape into a circle, sticky side out, press the tape against the errant roll, pull it away. It may take several tries in different places before the tape finds the end. Or removing the label on either end may reveal the end. If the thread is hidden in a notch, run your finger nail along the edge of the rim of the spool, you can feel the notch when you can't see it. You can also snip the thread in one place, then pull on each piece to find the end, although this does waste some thread, but if you can't find the end you can't use the thread anyway. |
I had this happen with a spool of Coats and Clark (rep gave me a bunch) and it took me removing the paper from both ends and then carefully scraping at the spool until it finally came loose. It wasn't in the notch and I almost threw the darned thing away. Love the Aurofil but can't find it here any more.
