Hi! I don't mean the brand name. I named my 830 Bernina, Burnie; yes, that isn't too clever. She is 34 years old now, bought her new. She has made lots of cloths, quilts, etc. The new Pfaff I purchased 3 years ago, I call Jean Luke (after the captain on one of the Star Trek series). My Dodge Nitro is called, Enterprise (Star Trek). The microwave oven of 6 years ago was called Chernobyle (spelling), it could really fry things if left unattended and the present microwave oven is called Hanford (after the plant that made the stuff for the Manhatten Project). So I'm curious, what do other sewers and quiltmakers name their machines? :-)

I have an excellent condition vintage Singer 15-90 in wood cabinet and her title is My Lady. My other machines I don't have a name for, they have less rank then My Lady. :wink:

BTW the Manhatten project has enthralled me for years. I watched an interview of one of the men involved. Very strange it has been played down by the media. His story make me want to say this should be front page news. My kids have no idea what the Manhatten project means.

I have an old singer that I call Betsy! still runs great even after all the straight pins I have run over by mistake! Good ole Betsy :D

LOL That is funny...I really thought i was the only one....I bought mine used she is about 10 years old...and she struggles a bit but I love her...I named her Sassy...and when I introduce people to my sewing machine I call her by name...I figure if I name her, and love her...she will last a long Long time...since I can't afford a new one right now :0

Okay. I call my two singers, by their model numbers. My treadle, I call Fred. My others I just call by the name of the company, but I may be getting another singer, will most likely be model number, but I like this name stuff!

Well, I also call my Bernina 1630 "Bernie" just a different spelling. My 221 Featherweight is "Feather". I have an old treadle, which is just "treadle".. my Singer Touch & Sew 750 is "faithful", it never fails me, and my Singer 285K is "scottie" because it was made in Scotland.
Not very original but it works for me. Maybe I need another machine to name something really unique.. LOL

My old brother is Sweetie and my Juki is Big Boy. The new one hasn't earned a name yet.

My machine's name depends on how well it's behaving at any given moment in time...LOL

Okay, done giggling now....thanks for humor! However, I am also giggling at myself cause I call my machines by name, too.

My new Babylock Elegante2 I call The Queen Mother Nancy....she's the top one and she's got Nancy Ziemans autograph on her, or just Queenie. My Babylock Ellure I have always called Ellie....guess I got it from ellure. My Decorators Choice model I call baby....from Babylock and she's the baby of the group.

Okay, now do you talk to your machines too? When mine beeps that the bobbin is almost empty or makes some signal to me for whatever I did wrong....I always ask it "what?" "oh, okay, I will give you more bobbin thread" etc. My quilt friends always comment about I'm just talking to my machine again....like I was nuts! Me?????

I don't have a name for my Bernina, but my Long Arm is called Cujo. I broke my wrist a year ago on Valentine's Day. Not long after I got the cast off, I was trying to catch up on the quilting. I was stitching around applique, using the middle finger of my left hand (the one that broke) to guide the hopping foot. My reflexes weren't very good. The needle hit the finger, I pulled.

No blood touched a quilt in this incident (THAT'S the important part!!!)
