Meandering - It exhausts me!

I have an HQ16. Generally I do "quilting for dummies" - groovy boards - or use the rulers for making shapes. I have been practicing feathers and finally figured out what works for me. All of that is fun and gives me pleasure but I HATE meandering. It makes me tense and exhausts me. I looks like it should be relaxing and my DILs love to do it thought I frequently holler down the stairs, "Slow down!"

I made a Twister baby quilt from Dr. Seuss fabric for my first grandchild. My son says, "You are going to use the all over squiggly lines to quilt it, right? That will look so Dr. Seuss like." So, I am. The shower is tomorrow and I hated the thought so much I put it off until this morning. After less than an hour I had to take a break.

Does anyone else have this problem? I can go for a couple hours at a time using other methods but this one just wears me out. I am not tense. My shoulders and back don't ache.

Okay, back to the dungeon - basement with quilting machine.

Hope you all are having a great morning.

Mary

I love the look of stippling, but don't care to do it myself. I find it boring. I don't mind meandering with lines/loops/hearts/leaves, etc. It seems to go faster and I am usually just as happy with the results.

I test drove an HQ16 at a quilt show a couple of years ago...wish I had one!

Yes! I don't care for doing it on my domestic, can't answer for the HQ16. Might be the ADD, haha, like Katie said if you can change it up a little. Idea! What about hiding things in it?

I do meandering on my old Kenmore and am always amazed at how quickly I can get a 50 x 50 quilt done. What I don't like are other patterns that require me to actually think and plan.

Its just one of those things ... some people love it, others hate it. I'm one that loves it - BUT I only like very small or micro stippling, large stippling drives me nuts.

I also test drove both the HQ16 and the Tiara (same machine - different badge) and LOVED it and want one!!

I enjoy the meandering, of course I only do it on tablerunners, baby quilts or throws. It goes fast.

Meandering is my fall-back "I don't know what to do on this quilt" pattern. I enjoy it, and find it goes really fast and uses less thread than other designs (that's the larger meandering, as opposed to stippling). The only part that stresses me out is if my thread matches too well, and I have to keep checking closely to make sure I'm not going to cross lines or leave a big gap. If I can see the thread, I can stand up and relax (I have an HQ16 too - love it!).

ICK on meandering. You are not alone. I get myself into corners and all sorts of trouble. For something FAST I will do a vine and leaf. I have a very old HQ16 and love it. She is currently in the shop getting a spa day.
