Practicing Winding Curly Feathers

I am really thrilled with these! I've been practicing creating winding curling feathers and they were really kind of tricky for me to get the hang of. After some pratice this is what I've got!

They look GREAT. Beautifully done.

They are beautiful. For those who haven't done them, the trick is to put a dot in the center of that spoon shape so you don't quilt your feathers past the dot and take up all the space. The dot can be real or imaginary. And then there is the beautiful curvatious shape of these feathers. They are just simply gorgeous. Can you tell I love feathers.

Very cool, I have never tried it, looks complicated. Love the ability of others. Thanks for sharing.

yes that's a huge part of what was throwing me off! A lot of it seems to be just planning ahead. I also could never figure out where to end that last feather. I started kind of melding that very last feather into the top of the spine so it looks a little more like a teardrop - it made SUCH a huge difference. Now I need to practice continuous feathers. I have this start/stop thing happening and need to do a continuous line and get them to seem more naturally flowing. Thank you for the dot tip!

Looks like you're doing great!

Sharon Schamber's videos have been a great help to me in figuring out how I want to stitch long lines of continuous feathers. I have a few of her videos and I think this one is best for learning how to make feathers go where I want them to: "DOM Basic Feathers - Borders, Corners and Blocks" http://www.sharonschamber.com/Produc...ductCode=DMQ22 She shows step-by-step how she creates feathers. I learn so much from watching her! I also have her "Free Form Feathers" and "Feather Abundance" videos and like them just as much!
