Best Muslin?

What brand of muslin would you recommend? I'm taking a class in free motion quilting and we have to prepare samples of muslin to practice on . They suggest using a smooth good quality muslin.

It's better to practice using quality supplies. A good quilt shop fabric, wool batting and quality thin thread will make your work look great even if your quilting is not perfect. I took a class from Diane Gaudynski and she said the practice quilting should be on the best quality you have not the worst.

If you are practicing for the first time any closely woven muslin works. There is absolutely no need to use the expensive muslin for your first practice. Just so long as it is not too thin. I would not use the cheap stuff that is thin and has a lot of sizing in it. I say this after teaching a lot of classes in machine quilting.

The best muslin I have is 200 thread count. i would not recommend it for beginner free motion quilting. It can give you tension and skipped stitch problems. I'd go with a lot lower thread count muslin to practice on but not the really thin, cheap one.

I love Southern Bell. I have one finished quilt and 3 more started, all with just the creamy muslin and different colors of thread. The price is really good on this too; I got it from my LQS

I like Keepsake Quiltings muslin, very good quality. I buy it by the bolt.
