Faudels Hand Crank Transverse Bobbin Woes

My dd gave me a lovely old Faudels hand crank for Christmas. I wound one bobbin load and sewed it all up. Ran great. Wound the second bobbin and put it in and immediately it locked up at a certain place. So I am pretty sure I put the shuttle in wrong. But I can't get the shuttle out! It doesn't go back to the left far enough to engage the eject on the slide. Of course I am worried about messing something up while trying to extract it. Does anyone have any ideas to help me out?

Hawk, If you could post a picture, I would be willing to attempt to diagnose the issue. I am really new to transverse machines, but would like to try to help.

Hello Hawk, It sounds very irritating.

The shuttle should go in with the flat side to the front and the point to the right. If you look at my blog (link below) and click on the heading Transverse Shuttles on the right you will see the posts (nine so far) I have put there about TS machines. Also if you watch my video about threading a Little Vesta, everything about the shuttle is likely to apply to your machine.

Tip the machine back in its base and look at the shuttle carriage from the underneath. You will soon see whether you have got it in the the right or wrong way round.

Frankly, I don't think you would even have been able to shut the slide plate if the shuttle was in the wrong way round.

Checked and it was pointed the right direction. Just wouldn't move past a certain point. But I just now got brave and wiggled the shuttle good with tweezers and (ta da!) it came out! Before I try again I will go and watch Muv's TS videos and drink a cup of tea. Thanks! I will try to post her photo after she and I get settled in.

Hello Hawk - Glad you've got the shuttle out.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures. I love German TS machines.
