Singer 6268 Sewing Machine ????

Got a question for anyone who can help.

I have the opportunity to buy a Singer 6268 sewing machine in a cabinet. Price is great - I think anyway. But does anyone have one and can tell me anything about it? I've not seen it in person just in pics.

Is it good for piecing and what all does it do?

TIA

I don't know, but found these threads that might help you decide:

I've got one! Bought it new and used it exclusively until about 4 years ago for garments, crafts and quilting. It's a workhorse, and I just got it out the other day to hem some jeans. I now have a Babylock with needle up/down, knee lift, and a wider harp space for quilting. A couple nice features on the Singer are the "low bobbin" indicator and a dial-controlled stitch width, so if you are satin-stitching, you can widen or narrow your stitches very easily as you sew. It does use bobbins with a center post and spring, which are a little more expensive than regular bobbins. It has an air-powered foot pedal, which I never have had any problems with. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help you out.

I should have mentioned that I did use it successfully for piecing and FMQ for several years!

I have one but haven't used it a lot. It seems to work well, goes through lots of layers with no problems, can wind bobbin in place .... I think I have the manual for it so if you have questions, I can look stuff up :) .

Thanks for the input. I will look into it further. Not that I need another machine, but it may be good as a back up if nothing else. My other two back ups are the really cheap ones that are o.k. for piecing, but nothing major.

I have one too! When I bought my 6268 it was Singer's "top of the line"... that has to be at least 25 years ago! I know this is one of Singer's most-reviled machines but mine was not troublesome.... I had the motherboard replaced once, and it still works, although I don't use it currently. It's a very heavy, sturdy machine. I would say go for it!

Singer 6268- any working ones available?

I have a Singer 6268, and it is need of repairs. Several repairers are having problems getting parts, and the suggestion was that I buy another one for parts (or to use). As I have loved my machine, getting another one that works seems to me to be a great idea. Anyone HAVE one or know of one for sale?

The 6268 was arguably one of Singers worst machines ever built. Those of you who have one that works properly are the exception, not the norm.
