Started a new baby quilt

This is for my nephew and his wife and their new baby girl. My nephew's wife loves skulls (????) and I am doing something decidedly different for the baby quilt. I have made the following two blocks: I plan to have a 3 by 3 block design with 5 flowers and 4 bows. What do you think? Each flower or bow will be a different color/pattern. What would you do for sashing? all one color or many?

I think I'd sash it with lots of colors. Maybe colors that go with the bows. It would be cool to quilt it with some type of a bone pattern. I think a simple "dog bone" pattern could be done pretty easily.

I love it really hot now. skulls are all over the place. the black and white with bright colors are great for kids.

the skull design is really hot on long island for the past 3-5 yrs now. all joanns have a full line of them. don't take this personally but I think the island is more advanced thinking ( read, out of the box )and not so traditional when it comes to baby things. they even have the baby skulls as wall paper. I think the idea will hit the heartland soon, not a fast as it hit the island.

I love unusual baby quilts.....this is really great. I would sash with the same black, but use colorful setting blocks. Can I still this idea from you?????? Where did you get the skull pattern????

My granddaughter has a little plush toy with skeleton features on it. My husband hates it, but the baby is very attached to it. I think it must always look like it is smiling to her. I guess that's better than being afraid of skulls and skeletons.

Love the skulls -- think they will make Mom a great quilt. I made a quilt with smiling dinosaurs in bright colors, and it had to be packed away when baby was a toddler as it scared him.

Skulls are quite popular now. Have you looked at baby clothes? They have skulls on them too. My grandson, now 4, has been wearing them since he was born. Actually, if you think about it, skulls are life. If you didn't have one, you'd be in a world of hurt.
