Need help finding an applique pattern.....:)
Hi --- I need helping finding something..... We'll be leaving in a couple of weeks to camp all winter in Arizona. I was thinking I wanted to do hexigon quilt by hand, but think that will be boring. I REALLY want to do applique by hand. But I'm having problems. I don't want to haul a bunch of fabric for an overall color scheme like many quilts. Is there a pattern for a "scrappy" quilt, appliqued......????? I've done a sunbonnet sue and have no desire to do overall sam. But that's kinda the idea I'm talking about. Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

I don't know if you're familiar with the Fat Cat Patterns website, but there are many applique patterns available that could be scrappy. She has free and retail patterns available.

Wow those free patterns are adorable.

I like Lori Smith's patterns, and if you want a smaller project she has "frame able" patterns that finish at sizes perfect for framing. I have one that is wall hanging size and I plan to use a fat quarter pack for it.

Have you considered a wool applique project?? Lots and lots of wool kits, or patterns and pick your own wool.

Fat cat is a new site to me. It's a gem. Thanks for the link candikhan.

how about hexies. I did a 55 x 65 with 3/4" hexies. paper pcs.com has a bunch of designs to choose from, I usually get them in two days. the hexies I made was all scraps. turned out beautiful. my kitty has it on her throne and she looks great with it, (it didn't match anything in my house).
don't forget to show us what you do! |
Thank you for the websites!!!!!! :) I found about a dozen I'd like to do......and most of them I know I'd NEVER finish!
DogHouseMom....I'd LOVE to do wool stuff, but I'm allergic to wool! I break out in hives!!!!! I can't even use wool on longarming quilts and I LOVE the look! lynnie.....I'll check out that site!!!! Thanks |
The next time I have a situation like this (usually when I have surgery and I have one coming up) I plan on making a dresden plate. It has the hand piecing and then the applique onto the background block. Easy to carry, not so boring as a GFG.
I have also thought about doing the little girl's quilt with the doll dresses that you applique and embellish, not the one with preprinted dresses. THAT would have all kinds of interests and a variety of things to do. HTH |
