Lost Piece of Mail

I bought fabric from a board member on here, and she should have received my check by this past Thursday . But it still has not arrived. I am mystified.

Tell me if you think I could have messed up the envelope by being creative with it. Here's what I did. Being frugal, I used a birthday card envelope that just had my first name on it. I scribbled a tree design with rope swing over it. Simple decoration.

Then I put the recipient's name and address in the lower left-ish corner, mine in the usual place. STamped it (I'm sure--it was a Christmas ornament stamp) and mailed it Tuesday , I believe.

What could be the hold-up? Do you think my scribbling was that bad? Or so GOOD that the postman intercepted it and framed it because it reminded him of his boyhood swing? I'm trying to be optimistic here.

I would stop payment on the check and send another.

Maybe the Labor Day postal holiday held it up a bit?

If the envelope is on the smaller side, it has probably been put in the 'hand cancel' pile which could have held it up as well. If you're dealing with anything other than standard envelope sizes any more 1) you pay more postage and 2) it can't go through the sorting machines so it gets pushed off to the side to do 'when there's time'. Could be the reason for the delay.

The extra stuff on the envelope may have kicked it out of the auto-sort equipment & slowed it down. Also, sadly, cards tend to be targets of thieves looking for cash or gift cards.

I would give it at least a week to arrive - - - -

Usually, mail does only take two or three days, but glitches have been known to happen.

First class mail doesn't move nearly as fast as it used to. I've had mail take a week or more just to go to the next state.

Wasn't there a 2 cent stamp rate increase in January? May be slowed down because a little postage is due?

I used to use old card envelopes for mailings but a postal worker told me not to do this as well. I mail most things now in standard envelopes.
