marking pen mishap
 

I am making 3 tee shirt quilt for my nephews who lost their dad last summer. I am embroidering and doing applique on some extra blocks to add to the quilts. one one block, I use a Dritz disapearing marker, the one the evaporates away. The mark went away and was fine. Then, later on, I pressed the block and the mark came back. Now it won't go away. Any advice on how I get rid of the purple line? Thanks in advance.

no it is most likely set with the heat. Folks forget that even if the marks disappear that the chemical is still in the fabric. It must be washed out. Sorry but don't know a solution to the problem. Just the facts of the product.

You could try a magic eraser. I've gotten some colored markers off fabric with it. Also the Fit vegetable wash has gotten out a lot of chemical based stains for me. It's made to neutralize the stuff left on vegetables and fruits. It won't hurt fabric at all.

Unfortunately, I think Holice is right. Heat sets these products. It won't hurt to try various methods to get the marks out, but if that doesn't work would you be able to dye the block, applique over the marks, or make more marks with the pen (and heat set them) that might make the marks look intentional? I hope the block isn't set into the quilt yet.

Can you applique or embroider over it?

I would contact the manufacturer. You can't be the 1st one to do this...

I had a client a number of years ago who had pressed her quilt with the BLUE be Gone still on. I was sure it was ruined but I followed the instruction on a product called Le Blanc Linen Wash. Just Google and it seems to be still available. Use to buy it in bedding and linen stores but now so many have closed their doors. I followed the instructions and let it soak overnight. I was quite surprised when the blue markings were gone and never returned. I wash everything that is delicate with the product.

I marked a quilt block with a Dritz purple air soluable marking pen that the color dissapears as it dries. I pressed the block anf the purple mark came back when I ironed it and it would not go away. I learned a new trick today! I used Biz! I used a very small amount of the powder and added a smige of water to make a paste. Then I used a q-tip to dob it on the purple line and let it sit a while. It started to dry to a white powder again. Then I rinsed it off and rubbed a bit and the mark is gone!!!! I thought maybe someone would like the tip...just in case. Thanks for all the suggestions I recieved.
