What to do with this wool?

I started collecting wool to make some fun projects, soon realized appliqué was not for me. Any suggestions as to what else this can be used for?Or should I get rid of it? Thanks.

You could make a crazy quilt or sell it on QB.

Yes, you should get rid of it. Would you like my address:D

Wool appliqué quilts are pretty but if you don't want to appliqué, felted purses are cute. There are also Penny rugs done out of wool.

Amish quilts were often made with woolen fabric, and that's what first came to mind when I saw your picture as you have nice assortment of light and dark. Most woolen fabric will not ravel so applique without turning under would work wonderfully. I'm not sure if you would like it but think organic country style with fairly large hand quilting stitches or log cabin. I am envious. Look up folk art quilts and get inspiration there. Love your collection. Anxious to see what you decide.

Wow, I am envious too. I have about 4 pieces in my collection. Maybe I need to go thrifting with an eye to wools rather than cotton shirts.
I made a pincushion from a kit and didn't enjoy using the tiny pieces all that much - I thought I would try something with larger pieces (sort of like Kim Diehl style) next time. |
Pieced wool quilts are wonderful and warm.

You could cut them up in larg(er) squares end make a lovely warm quilt top ? Wouldn't need batting, just backing.

I saw a really nice quilt throw in Primitive Gatherings Winter 2013 magazine. They had taken wool squares, crocheted around them and then crocheted the squares together. Really looked nice.

I am not a big applique person either but this past Christmas I made snowmen ornaments for a swap that I actually enjoyed doing. It was nice handwork to carry with me. I ended selling a set of them to the woman who got my original ones in the swap. I am actually on my fourth set because they turned out so great. I did stuff mine a little to give them some dimension.
Here they are: http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/holida...atterns?page=6 There are other wool ornaments on this site too, I believe. I am drooling over your collection of wool. |
