Cutting fabric wrong?
I think I may be cutting wrong and have done so for 20 years. I place my ruler on the main block of fabric, cutting to the right of the ruler the size strip I want.
How do you cut? |
What makes you think you are cutting wrong? Sounds okay to me!
|
What I have seen lately, is the ruler goes on the strip at the left side of the fabric, not the main body of fabric. I am right handed.
I guess as long as it works for me. |
Being right handed I have always measured from the left of the fabric, and cut on the right side of the ruler, always pushing the blade away from you. I know that if your left handed you would do the opposite but still pushing away from you.

Everyone has their method. No quilt police telling you how to do it. :)

I do it the same way you do. (That means it is right, right?? :) )

there are no *hard* rules- we each cut the way we were taught- or have found works best for us- don't worry about it- if it works for you there is nothing 'wrong' with it. I have been known to cut the way you do it, sometimes I do it the other way- it (for me) depends on many things- the fabric, which end I want to cut from, my mood, the size of the strips....any number of things will cause me to cut one fabric with the ruler on the large area and the next one with the *bulk* on the right side and the strip under the ruler- it all just depends- and both ways work. No *right or wrong* involved if you achieve the cuts you are seeking. :)

I do the exact opposite......but then I'm left handed.

What ever gives you accurate cuts is correct.

I cut the same as you and most others. Only way that makes sense to me. Whatever works for you is the right way to do it.
