Cross hatch through the borders??
 

I have 3 more t shirt quilts to quilt. The first I did FMQing and realized how HARD that was- never again with t-shirts! I'm going to do a 3 inch or so cross hatch for the others (they are all gifts). Would it look *bad* to go through the borders with the cross hatching? I'm trying to get these done faster (before a family reunion in June) and not having a lot of starts and stops might be easier, but I don't want them to look bad... They are all about 65x72. Thanks for your help!

I have cross hatched many borders in quilts because it is easier sometimes especially if the body was also cross hatched. If you used white for the body, I would change threads to match your borders.

Go for it. I wish I would have continued the cross hatch through the borders on the last quilt as it was for a four year old who really isn't critical about quilting pattern.

I do it quite often too. Works well for me.

I have continued my quilting lines through the border. It can be challenging though depending on how wide your borders are to keep a straight line at the proper angle. I have made templates that measured up into the blocks and through the border and marked my border to keep the lines in the proper perspective when I was using only reference points in the blocks to line up my quilting. I really like the look. I used the same color thread in the border that I did for the body of the quilt when I did this. If you use a different color thread as someone suggested it defeats the purpose of limiting the number of stops and starts.

I think you can see the quilting lines on this one going into the borders. I marked the lines with a Hera marker. just indentation marks I could follow.

I am going to quit them using 50 wt grey thread. I'll try to post a picture tonight, but they are t shirt quilts with a variety of t shirt block colors and an orange border...
