Singer Needles Only?

Someone told me that my featherweight needs singer needles only. Didn't know that! How about the 301, is that the same?

I find that the Singer needles are poorly made. I've had much better luck with Organ needles and use them all the time in my Featherweight, 201 and 301.

Every manufacturer wants you to use their needles. Singer was no different. However the Singer that made your FW and the needles that fit it no longer exists. Singer is just a name plate on a product made where ever the corporate head dictates now. China, Brazil, Europe, where ever.

Your machine will use any quality made system 15x1 needle. Schmetz, Organ, others, and even Singers. But as Shelbie said, Singer needles are not what they used to be. I've found their quality varies from package to package.
Some are great, some are stinkers. I use Schmetz primarily, but I've used Organ, Singer, and others with good results.

I use Organ needles in all my 15x1 machines. I think I pay 3.50-ish for a 10 pack at my LSMS and have never had a problem.

No, but the person who told you that, probably read it in the manual. I actually find my FW to be not too picky. Not picky on needles, not picky on thread. I have other machines that either only like one type of thread (Gutterman) and some that flat out refuse to use a certain brand of thread (Mettler). Not the same machines either.

I use mostly Organ needles in my Singers...the Singer needles are like Joe says....not what they used to be....

If you buy 100 needles cheap on line take a magnifying glass and look at the needles are the shafts straight? Are the holes evenly shaped? You can not return them after the first couple days. ASK ME HOW I KNOW THIS.
