A cotton swab solution!
 

Going over those heavy seams and the presser foot needs support? Don't have a fancy machine with a button to push to provide stability? Take a cotton swab and shove that paper shaft to the foot of the presser foot. Amazing! Turned my struggling machine into one that climbed over six pieces of denim to complete a seam without bending or jamming the needle.

I just had to share. We are a family of short folks. We hem a lot. This is a wonderful discovery for me!!

I have a little red piece of plastic called a jean-a-ma-gig. I use it to support the presser foot when hemming jeans. But you solution sounds less expensive. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the tip. I saw a quilted binder, for sewing ideas and notes, that this idea will come in handy. I also have to always hem my and my brothers pants. Enjoy the day.

Thanks, I'll use your tip for a demo at quild next month. I have several jean-a-ma-gigs and they work great. They use to come free in quilt ad mailings! As did hora markers. Nothing comes in the mailings now.

I use the plastic case that the sewing machine needles come in. Just raise your sewing foot, insert the case under the back of it, lower foot and start sewing again. Works like a charm and, like your idea, much cheaper than the store bought item :)

I used to hem jeans at a mall store- no jean-a-ma-jig. So I put discarded jean hems under the foot. Worked great.

My fix? A hammer!! I hammer those joints with several thicknesses or along doubleed hem lines and the machine zips over them. I have a jean-a-ma-jig but could never seem to lay my hands on it when I needed it so decided to try the hammer (do you read - frustrated?) and it worked so well I never use my jean-a-ma-jig again.
