D9P using only three colors?

How do I do this? I've seen it completed, but without instructions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have done a D9P with 3 fabrics several times. What I did was use fabric 1 for the 4 outside corner squares, fabric 2 for the 4 outside center squares and fabric 3 for the center square. When I made it I used WOF strip sets (3 strips per set) and crosscut them. So using this method I made strip sets with fabrics 1-2-1 and 2-3-2 and another of 1-2-1, crosscut and sewed the e crosscut pieces together to make the 9 patch block which is then cut into 4 quarters. Hope this makes sense!

I have done this several times. I used color markers and roughly mapped out the blocks on graph paper first, which was very helpful. Maybe someone with EQ can whip up a diagram for you. Mine looked really pretty in the end!

Thanks, y'all. I realized that one fabric needed to be fussy cut, so I went with another pattern.

If the fussy cut wasn't directional then it would work but would need to be used in the four corners as those are the only squares that are not cut again to make the pattern. If the fussy cut was directional then they would end up going in all directions when you laid out your quilt unless you mapped it out and set the corners in different directions before the 9 patch is cut so that they would all be facing in the right direction once the pattern was laid out after the cuts. I have done this with directional fussy cuts with other patterns and it does take quite a bit of forethought and you often have to deal with the fussy cut not being on the straight of grain so stretching is possible.

I always use 3 fabrics when making D9P.... looks smart... one day I will have an attempt at sending a photo, when I have the courage....
