Dryer Wrinkled Quilt-Iron???
 

Dumb question...I just finished my King sized quilt and washed it as per usual. Problem is the thing is so big when I tried to tumble it dry in my dryer, it just rolled into a ball and has come out pretty wrinkled and still a bit damp in places. I put it in on low, and after 60 minutes took it out, shook it out and replaced it on low for another 60 minutes. I'm okay with the usual wrinkled look of a laundered quilt, it's just I have these big fold like creases randomly as a result of the ball up in the dryer. Will ironing work to get it smoothed out?

No idea, but will keeping watching as I am also wondering whether to iron Christmas wall hangings when I take them from store.

Well I went ahead and gave it a quick once over with steam iron as the quilt was barely damp in places and figured I'd have the best success doing it right away. It came out not too bad, certainly looks better, and have draped it to finish drying over the couch. I think next time, I would remove from the dryer and shake out the quilt often during the dry cycle to prevent it from happening again, or take it to the huge dryers in the laundromat, but they are always so hot even on low!

I shove my large items into my home dryer. At the end of 1 or 2 cycles when I still have damp areas, I just pull it out and hang it over my outside railing. If I did not have that, I'd probably drape over a couple or 4 dining room/kitchen chairs. If wood, would probably put some plastic wrap over the wood edges to prevent any issues either with the chair or the quilt. No great creases that way I wouldn't think.

I think the dryer balls help. While I don't have King size, I know my sheets don't come out in a ball anymore. They get tangled but not like before. My sister uses tennis balls.

I have never had any problem ironing a quilt, but I don't have any bigger than a full size and even that can be unwieldy on a regular size ironing board. So I like the idea of just draping them on a flat surface to dry. I have read on this Board not to hang wet quilts as the weight can cause it to stretch and break threads.

i take my kingsize quilts out of the dryer while they're still fairly damp then put them on the bed with the ceiling fan on high. Dries very nicely and no extra wrinkles. Just don't do it right before bed :p

I take mine to the laundramat - less stress on the quilts in the big washers and dryers.

I haven't been to a public laundry in a very long time, but I would think that their machines are way too hot to dry your quilt. I think just a little while in your home dryer and then spreading it out to finish drying. Perhaps a light spray of a wrinkle release product. I have done that with some of my garments.

I take any quilt over the size of a twin to the laundry mat, the front loading machines are gentler on the quilts and I dry on the lowest setting. I have done over 100 quilts this way and have had no trouble so far. I use color catchers on the first was s I do not pre-wash my fabrics.
