anybody have this happen to them???
This is a baby quilt that I finally finished, this is the one that I quilted Minky on the back.. anyway I washed it and found one of the seams came undone.. so I ripped out the quilting and was preparing to fix the seam , I thought I would just iron it a little on that seam so it would be nice and flat... well the iron was to hot and scorched the white part in the square. I was ready to just put it in the rag bag..thinking what else can go wrong with this quilt..
I went to a search here and found some really good tips on how to remove scorch marks on cotton. Thought I would let everyone know that the one using using Hydrogen Peroxide worked like magic..wow I could not believe it.. I wet a cloth with the peroxide and laid it on the scorch mark and iron over it with a iron that was not real hot and the scorch mark vanished like magic.. could not believe it.. good to know.. It's back in the washer and dryer and hope nothing else goes wrong with this quilt. Thanks for the good tips... |

The fabric we use for quilting is usually cotton, which makes it a natural, grown fiber which had living cells. Hydrogen peroxide has the unique property of dissolving certain enzymes in cells. This is why it worked on the cotton fabric. An interesting solution!
But if you will google information on using peroxide on wounds, you will discover that current medical practice does NOT recommend its use for wound cleaning or healing. Jan in VA |
it takes blood stains out of clothing. apply directly to affected area.

I thought hydrogen peroxide could damage fabric? I seem to recall reading a story on Leah Day's blog about her first wholecloth quilt, and she put hydrogen peroxide on it for some reason and it ended up "burning" it....?
Yeah, here it is: http://www.leahday.com/quilttheduchess/ Look for the "Update: Spring 2012" entry. It's about 2/3rds down the page. This story scared me off of hydrogen peroxide on fabric! It's tragic looking at those photos....so much amazing work. |
Thanks for the post.
