Words of wisdom from Sandra Betzina

This was printed on the instruction page for a Sandra Betzina pattern:

Be proud of your accomplishment and avoid being critical of your work. My father used to say, "anyone who looks that close is trying to buy it and it is not for sale."

She writes like that in her books, too. I have both her Power Sewing books.

Great quote & wise dad.

Love that! We tend to be too critical of ourselves. Only God is perfect!

Amen!! I need to remember that- often!

Very good saying. I am my worst critic.

Thanks for sharing. We are our worst critics.

While I was teaching sewing classes, use the rule " if they are closer than three feet" kiss them.

I've struggled with self criticism too, but have found in some circles (esp my guild) that everyone tears down their own work. It seems like it's not "cool" if you are proud of your work. An older woman I've known for years always said "thank you. I like this one too". I try to follow her example.

In that regard I know that every one of my quilts have something I would think of as less than perfect. But it's a matter of gracefulness to be able to take a compliment well, so like your friend I do the same. And I sometimes admit "this is one of my favorites." At the time that I quilted it, it probably was. I always enjoy the current quilt I'm working on.
