I wasn't going to join the FW club but...

I wasn't going to join the FW club but, I was in the right place at the right time today. I was running errands and pulled into the resale shop that supports our local private Day School. A grandfather and grandson were just starting to unload their van filled with donations. The grandfather was carrying a black case. I said, "What's in there?" He said, "It's kind of heavy; I think it might be a sewing machine."

An employee was coming out to help them unload, so I told her was interested in seeing it. We went in the back room, opened the case, and yes, it was a Featherweight. I could see it was in good, clean condition so asked her to price it for me. The several employees hit the web which scared me a bit; I just knew they were going to say at least $400 which is just too high for me. After some time, they decided on $200 and even included not only a box of accessories, bobbins, and needle packet but also a Pfaff buttonholer (not sure that will work with it). I checked that the bobbin case was intact and plugged it in to be sure it worked.

Upon closer examination at home, I find I'm the owner of a Centennial made in Oct. 1950. There are some minor surface scratches and a bit of the gold has rubbed off the bed, but I'm thrilled with it! I intend to use it so am glad I won't feel I'm scarring it with wear. Hearing it purr and seeing just how darned lovely it is, I can see why so many people are smitten with these machines.
