Devil's Food cake mix.
My friend made this cake and it was soooo yummy. Stayed fresh (covered sitting on my counter) for the 6 days it lasted. Can anyone tell me the difference between Devil's Food & regular choc. cake mix. I have a couple reg. cake mixes I'd like to use unless you think I should go buy the Devil's Food.

It was my understanding the Devil's Food is just a richer more moist chocolate.
I just looked at the recipe and realized that was one my mother used to make back in the late 60's. Except she didn't put in the vanilla or the chocolate chips. She used it to make a 3 layer cake and she frosted it with a pudding/Dream Whip frosting. I made a few when we were first married and I had an office to take what was left. (I could eat the whole thing, it truly is the devil calling me to another piece.) |
I think it would be OK. The taste made be a little different, but with all that chocolate, it has to be good.

Thank you so much. There sure is a lot of choc. in there.
Any similar ideas for butterscotch chips. Another of my buy one get one free purchases.LOL. Why do I buy these things, seemed to good to pass up. |
Use your butterscotch chips in magic cookie bars. Use the full 12 oz bag and no chocolate chips. Delicious bar cookie.

What about a different cake mix for the butterscotch chip, such as yellow, carrot or spice cake mix. Use a plain vanilla glaze on it or add cinnamon.

looks like a perfect dessert for tonight after we watch the Patriots vs. Colts in the playoffs. Thanks for posting.

You can substitute the regular chocolate cake mix. You result may just not be as dark or quilt as rich as the original, but I'm betting there will be little taste difference, especially once it's frosted. You won't know until you try.

I've used this recipe for years. My favorite is lemon. I use a lemon cake mix, substitute lemon juice for about 1/2 of the water and use lemon pudding mix. I also use lemon juice and powdered sugar for the glaze.

To enrich the chocolate flavor of a plain chocolate cake mix, substitute brewed coffee for the water and add a couple shakes of cinnamon. Great flavor.......
