Singer 500 stitches
1 Attachment(s)
I have a silly question to ask. I asked it on the Yahoo Slant group and didn't get much response, so I thought I'd try it out here. Here is a photo of the stitch chart inside the lid of my Rocketeer.
Can anyone tell me what the heck patterns JP and IP are supposed to be? JP could be either Bob Hope or FDR's profile. IP could be an angular version of Alfred Hitchcock's profile or (tilt your head to the left) a mountain top. Any other ideas? Tate |
I think it's pretty clear about JP anyway. It's Homer Simpson's profile.
I really don't know! You've got me curious now too. |
Aren't they all just a form of decorative stitches? Although .... I do see Homer Simpson and mountains so maybe I am wrong.
|
Just another decorative stitch pattern. I think you're both right. I was also thinking of Frankenstein and his bride.
|
Bob Hope and Sherlock Holmes were first thought but mountain makes more sense and actually have seen that used.

Weird stitches! Maybe to be used on a gag gift????
|
Looks like Grandma on the left, and Grandpa on the right. LOL
|
I have the Singer 500 also and have never used those stitches. But you know what they would be good for? Since my experience with free-motion quilting on the 500 is not great, I do straight-line quilting with a walking foot. Why not use those stitches for a random quilting pattern. It's much less boring than stippling.
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm going to try it. |
I like the Homer Simpson answer. The serious answer? I'm going to go with they were included because they were there and if Singer didn't include them they were afraid of all the questions from people about what would happen if they tried those combinations.
I just checked my 401A, different chart but I think JP and IP might be the same patterns. The pictures are small enough it's hard for me to tell. Rodney |
They may be readouts from an EKG! Turned sideways, of course.
