Tying A Hexagon Quilt

As I'm putting my hexagons together my mind is already thinking about how to quilt it. What are your thoughts on tying it? The hexagons are 1" so I'm wondering if tying would make the finished quilt too busy and take away from the hexagon design.

i'm doing 3/4" and I think it would be to busy and take away from the design. how about saving to have a la do it for you. that's what i'll do. I'm doing mine EPP, I assume you are too??? please show us a picture of it.

One can tie a quilt so the knot part is on the bacK and all one sees is a "stitch" on the front.

Yes. I'm using the EPP method. This is what I had finished so far. There will be a blue diamond shape between each "block". I'd have really liked to have made more flowers but I ran out of the green fabric. The center flower is bordered in both pink and green to make it stand out from the rest. The blue fabric is from my Grandma's stash I received when she passed away in 2012. She's the one who shared her love of quilting with me. I enjoy putting memories of her in my quilts.

I think if you are going to the trouble of doing all those hexies, then they deserve quilting. I have used tying for utility quilts but they don't stand up as well as quilted quilts. I would want those hexies to last. JMHO.

Thanks for the info. I had thought about doing that on a quilt but was afraid it would look stupid.

To use a quote that I really hate to use "it' s your quilt and you can do what you want - - "

The very first quilt top I made was my epp hexie (my avatar). I started it in 2009. Completed it in early 2014. It has sat until recently while I debated how to finish it. I have tied all the other quilts I've machine pieced. I started to tie it and quickly realized it was way too busy. Since I had all the hand work into it I didn't want to machine quilt it (which I I haven't tried to do yet). I hadn't tried hand quilting either but that is what I decided on. It is big stitch and Im definitely learning to be consistant. I am very happy I chose to hand quilt it. I did leave the tie in the middle of the flower and Im quilting the out line of the petals.

I keep debating how to quilt my hexagon quilt. I have been searching for ideas for machine quilting my GFG.
