Edge to edge quilting with embroidery machine
 

Anyone try this? I bought the first book with desupigns. I just need to carve out the time to learn it.

Can I get more info/input/opinions about this technique?
What type of embroidery machine seems to be recommended to work best with this technique?
I'm guessing it needs to be one that has a larger hoop area??...

I have several sewing machines and a serger, but I don't have an embroidery machine. I do all of my embroidery by hand, and I honestly don't think I'd use an embroidery machine.. except for quilting if this technique really works.
I really don't want to buy another machine unless I know I'd use it. However, I really do want to get better with my fmq.
I do okay quilting using my walking foot, but fmq just eats my lunch. :shock::p:shock:.
And, I'm like many quilters, in that I admit I'm my own worst critic. I say I'm going to do the fmq, and I'm NOT going to take out stitches. More often than not, I end up taking out the quilting stitches. And I revert back to using my walking foot, or my hand quilting.

I know a shop that teaches this with much success. Just wish it was closer to me!

I bought just the expansion pack 2 from QIAD and have had great success with it on a few crib and lap sized quilts. I've done designs in individual squares up to a queen. Just have to make sure the bulk is supported so there is no drag on the embroidery arm. I have a Brother Duetta but there are many designs for as small as a 5x7 field.

I have quilted several baby quilts and a lap quilt with this and have been very happy with the results. It was easy to use - took a little practice getting the stop and start points to align but doesn't everything take practice?
