rotary cutters do not turn
 

I have 3 rotary cutters and all of a sudden none of them turn when I am cutting. What is going on? Has anyone ever had this problem? I was going to change the blade, but all 3 at the same time? That doesn't seem right.

I am sure you have checked to see if the screw that holds the blade in isn't to tight. Mine would not turn one time and the screw was to tight, don't know how it got that way but it did. I am not sure if you can oil the screw and blade holders....maybe take the blades off and clean the handles. Hope that helps.

My first thought is also that the screws might be too tight. Have you tried a different cutting surface in case it's become worn out or sticky?

If you are trying to use all 3 on the same cutting mat, I would question the mat. My thought as well was perhaps the screws are too tight.

Yes, screw is the problem...has happened to me too...don't know why this happens...

I agree that the nut is probably too tight, but take the blade off and check the side that rubs the black "slider". Sometimes, on mine, the lint/dirt and oil will gel and it seems like it is holding the blade in one place. You will need to clean both pieces really well, flip the blade over, oil and put back together. I have found flipping the blade helps get a little more life from the blade.

The other week went to a class and when I used my rotary cutter, it made a terrible noise .Teacher said it was broken needed throwing. I came home it works perfectly with no noise and no treatment between. I think I was pressing wrong and had not released the stop button properly.

This may sound silly to some but, it could possibly be the humidity. Yep, you heard me right. With so much rain across the country this year, it is causing all kinds of weird things to happen. I would also think the nut if it were only one of them, but all 3 seems a little strange to me. Unless you had changed the blade in all of them at once, and you didn't.

I agree with all the other posts, check the nut: probably too tight.

Since it's all 3 at the same time, I'd tend to agree that the humidity in our delightful state is your culprit. It's be a tad 'thick' here lately. Might have to do some 'seasonal adjustments' to the screws on them.
