Should I just make my dining room into my sewing room?

When I sew, I do it in my dining room and now I have over come it since Christmas, I am trying to decide if I should just turn it into my sewing room.... only problem is, that it is open to my living room with only an arch way... so everyone can see it.... well they do now so.......

is there another entrance to your sew/dinning room? if so I would cover the archway in the living room with a couple of tall book shelves (I never seem to have enough shelving) on the sewing room side put up a design wall, or make a large quilt to hang over the arch way. Than live with it a couple of months before you do something permanent.

I guess that would depend on how much company you get for dinner and do you want them? The perfect excuse-I don't have a place to sit all those people! Just kidding, but if you haven't used it since Christmas I would say it's yours!

If you only use your dining room for Christmas, then I'd say claim that room as yours! Let another family member with the formal dining room host the holiday...just offer to help with the cooking and your conscience is clear!

Use your house the way that works best for YOU.

My dining room area is my sewing room. I LOVE IT. It forces me to keep it as neat as possible which makes it all the better for me. I agree, It's you home use it so it works for you. Send us pictures after you take over!!!!

My neighbor used her living room for her sewing room. It is at the front of the house and has archways going to hallway and to rec room. She is trying to get her 20 something daughter to move out so that she can claim the extra bedroom, but she does so much embroidery, I don't think she will be happy with the sewing room upstairs.

I took over the dining room four years ago after my mom passed away. As mom grew old, we always had the big dinners here and I cooked. Now I've passed that task to my DIL, her turn! We do have a small area in the kitchen where we eat. The table is small but has a leaf and we have another couple over to eat with us. It seems that nowadays people don't entertain much in their homes. We usually go out to eat with friends or they come over and we BBQ and entertain outside by the pool. Where I live in CA we can pretty much be outdoors year round.

Can you make something like a folding quilt rack that can used to display your quilts but hide your sewing room?? A friend of mine did that with the small alcove that was her sewing room but part of the master bedroom.
