1000 Pyramids Quilt Size

I have only seen patterns for this quilt using 5.5" unfinished triangles. I would assume since they are equilateral triangles that I should be able to reduce the size of them to create a smaller quilt, but thought I'd check if anyone here has made it in a smaller size before I start cutting.

Thanks in advance for all your shared wisdom!

Yes, you can make them any size you want. The only size restriction would be so small that all the seam allowances were too bulky.

Wow, I've never seen one with 5" triangles, most I've seen were 2 1/2" ( 3" unfinished). you can make them any size you like.

Thank you both for your feedback.

I agree, ckcowl, I think 5" is huge -- and a LOT of money invested in the fabric! They asked us to bring over 4 yards just for the top! That would make a quilt that's 6' x 7'. I'm not making this quilt for the Jolly Green Giant. I think half that size should be more than sufficient for a nursery quilt ... especially after I add borders.

Workshop is tomorrow so we'll see how it turns out -- Mary Fons is our teacher. I had to grab a bunch of fabrics at the LQS just to be able to make something tomorrow. They're all shades of grey, but the designers are really mix-and-match. If I love it, I may make a second one in beautiful grey Kaffe Fassett fabrics (of course, since it's Kaffe, every single fabric has a little surprise of color mixed in with the neutrals). Such fun!

Thanks again for your feedback! You saved me a bundle of money at LQS.

If you can find Cory Pepper's templates, the triangles are 2.5 inch finished bottom. I made such a quilt top. Since most people make this quilt for their own beds rather than a nursery, it's great that she has info for that size. Obviously, you can make it any size you want. :)

I think I would use fewer triangles rather than changing the size of them.

Either way would reduce the size of the finished piece.

Good Luck. I try to stay away from bias edges. You can make them any size block you want.

I have a UFO---- all scraps using 5"triangle....just try to sew the bias edges on the sides so tops & bottoms r the straight edges....

Hmm, Mary Fons will be teaching.....let us know how that goes....

I would think that 5" triangles would be too large for my taste.
