FMQ for Jelly Roll Race quilt
 

The title says it all. I made a Jelly Roll Race because I needed a quick quilt, not because I like the pattern. My first thought was just a loose meander, my second was horizontally with a large serpentine stitch. I think the linear pattern needs the curves of option #1. Any thoughts? The colors are muted - so far out of my comfort zone, it's funny. Moda Simple Abundance.

I recently did a 2-color JR race, it is posted in pics. I just did your 1st option & it looks good. You're right the curvy quilting is a good idea. I also did a Hunter's Star that I had quilted. When I met with the quilter & showed her my practice pieces with echo quilting she suggested swirls to counteract the straight lines. That quilt is also in the picture section & the swirls really compliment the quilt. I usually only do echo quilting, STID, or scribbles.

I have a jelly roll rainbow quilt top that is ready to be quilted. I just plan to SITD & then echo that 1/2" to the right with another straight line all the way across the quilt (in my quilt, the stripes run vertically). I've seen that done & it looks very nice -- clean, modern & beautiful.

I vote for something curvy, swirly, or curly! :) That's what I'm planning for mine~~ :)

I did straight line quilting 1/4 inch away from the seams. The person the quilt was made for decorates with a somewhat modern style and this seemed more appropriate. I quite liked the look.

I have quilted a simple meander on my JRR.

you could use the serpentine st in a diagonal grid... that would really break up the horizontal lines

I would stitch in the ditch and maybe one or two down the strip. Sometimes with fancy stitching you don't see it being that the fabric is a very busy print.
