New home VS machine
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all. Someone I know through FB owns this machine and wants to use it (it's her grandmother's) but it's missing the shuttle and bobbins. These are quite rare in Australia but a lot less so in the U.S.
Does anyone have a shuttle and some bobbins for her? Please PM me. Thanks Mike |
It's great that she wants to get it up and running. It's a nice looking machine and in great condition. I hope someone here can help.

Is this it?
http://needlebar.org/cm/displayimage..._display_media I'd try a Singer shuttle and bobbin without purchasing for fit as many machines made by Free use these. Jon |

Have you had a chance at cleaning and polishing? It looks like a very nice machine. I don't think I've seen a New Home shuttle machine before. How old is it?
|
This machine is made by Free - and they usually take the same size as Singer, so I'd try that. I would not expect an older New Home shuttle to fit. It also helps to date it - it was made after Free took control of New Home. Very nice looking machine too!

It's fun to look around and read on Needlebar - After Free took control of New Home, they basically convered the name to a "badge" and put all the info on machine that are identical to Free - they did not continute to make machines under the New Home design. However, it appears that after Natioanl was included, they took National machiens and put the New Home name on them - so those ones take shuttles the same as National machines, and not Free.
One clue - if they have a wide slide plate, it's more likely they take a Singer shuttle, if narrow, then if they are newer machines, it's likely to be National. Figuring out vintage machines gets real confusing after companies started consolidating and buying each other out. |
