Basic question about strip piecing

When do I press the seams?

-Before I cut the strips into smaller pieces
OR
-After I cut the strips

Thanks!!

I press every seam right after sewing it. So when strip piecing I press after each strip is added, and one final press after the strip set is finished before cross cutting it.

Thank you.

You want to make sure you aren't developing a curve in your strip set. Pressing after each seam is a good way to check. I also think it's easier to press one big long seam rather than a bunch of small ones.

Get a Strip Stick and your seams will always be straight. http://www.thestripstick.com/

You can also start/end your seans at opposite ends to help with the wuggle/waver. Iam also a heavy presser. Sew your long seam...set, press, sew the next strip..rePeat. use lots of starch when doing long piieces.

Love my Strip Stick! Makes it much easier to press one seam without touching the next one.

I press after I sew each seam. I know it's a lot of pressing but it sure makes my project look nicer in the long run.

Sometimes quilters will cut the strips in half thus having a smaller strip set to press. You just have to find out what works best for you.
