Fabric Suggestions for making a village neighborhood quilt
 

Just watched a Jenny Doan tutorial for making a " Neighborhood " houses quilt.
She used one layer cake, one charm pack and one white layer cake pack.
The white background fabric I have on hand but the houses are my big question. I am thinking a light print for the doors and windows but what colors for roofs and houses. I like Moda - maybe from one of their collections Throw me some ideas?

Debbie Mumm had a great free BOM a while back. It was called Mumms the Word. My sister made one just using scraps and it turned out really pretty. You should be able to get some ideas from it. http://www.debbiemumm.com/Projects/QuiltBlocks/2012/

Tartan- You are so right and I guess I will have to mull it over for a while.As I am out in NW I think the cabin look would be nice but there again a more abstract w/bright colors is appealong too.
I am thinking maybe grays and reds for year round but so many options.
Ginger K - I love that Debbiemum one but looks way more complicated than I could handle since a lot of applique and paper piecing.

You can get very creative with this. You could even make the roof plaid. Do you want traditional house colors, or do you want to go wild?

Choose your color scheme; choose your print style (plaids, florals, "landscape" realistics, blenders, etc.)
I was part of a plaid exchange years ago where we made several different house and tree patterns with all the house pieces being assorted plaids. I have several house quilt books and patterns for a planned "country look" quilt, but they're in a box in the garage right now."

I made mine scrappy out of pastel mini prints with some soft browns. Just mixed them up and did whatever came out as long as they didn't match doors or roof to house. I'd post a picture but I've lost most of my pictures.

Google house quilts and you will get so many ideas it will make your head spin. There are so many patterns and color combinations shown, it might make your decision even harder!

Tartan is right. Pick the type of houses you want to make and choose the fabrics that will reflect that choice. Sounds like fun if only I had more time to play. Xmas deadlines.
