Singer Spartan

I just purchased a Spartan but it doesn't have a base and doesn't sit straight on the counter. Can you purchase a base for this machine somewhere or is there another solution?

9 times out of ten those are broken or AWOL. I had a plastic shoe box to fit one in. My husband has built frames to hold machines. If you google search you might come up with a frame.

They are 3/4 size machines, any case from a 99, 128 or 185 will work. If you have the right tools it's not too difficult as a DIY project. The Spartan and the 99s need a base, they all do, but som can stand and run with out one. There are vintage 3/4 size cabinets too.

Vintage cases and cabinets aren't easy to find.

I just saw one the other day and it was a mess. The gal tried to convince me her price of $250.00 was low because of being an antique. I told her I wasn't born yesterday, rather an antique myself but I still work Hers didn't and needed cleaning up. I don't know a lot about the Spartan at all. I will admit that but I wasn't about to pay that and neither should anyone else for that machine. I have seen some on this board (photos) and the worst ones looked better than hers.

True, cases are far from plentiful, but I have come by a few the last three years. The unfortunate thing is, when ever there's a an empty 3/4 size cabinet it takes ages to connect with someone who is looking for one, and vis versa.

Mickey, on this side of the pond 3/4 cabinets are few and far between. Most 3/4 machines here were portables in cases, and many of those cases were thin plastic that hasn't held up over time.

I see Cari, I suppose that calls for a DIY case, and I have seen tutorials for some very nice ones on the web. There was a guy who posted on some luxury bases, they were absolutely the finest make, but the prices were accordingly. I've seen the odd plasic cases here too, but those in wood are nicest and has stood up to time and knocks better.

Mine was busted in shipping. (The case, not the machine) So my DH made me a new base out of leftover bamboo flooring!

Buyers remorse in reverse or what was I thinking??! A couple years ago I came across a Spartan in portable case complete, clean for $20 and I passed it up. I've grown too soon old and too late smart. Good luck with yours.
