Need suggestion for Mosaic print
I want to use this fabric to make a quilt for an 11 year old's birthday (Aug 19). I have cut out pieces (actually every piece I need with about 13 diff fabrics) from the Benartex pattern called Butterfly Garden.
However, I'm not "feelin' it" and I can't tell why. So I'm thinking of going in a different direction. Suggestions, please? I do want to use this fabric, just don't know HOW. She is artsy, likes symmetry, favorite colors are aqua/turquoise, gold, and purple. http://www.connectingthreads.com/Mos...oms_CD255.html |
I find that some fabrics with geometric designs don't look as nice cut up into blocks, but they do often work for borders and backs.

If you already have the pieces cut out, I would just piece it. It is a pretty pattern.

It is a nice collection. You didn't say what sizes you cut the fabric into?? Can you make a Fallin Charm quilt or a D9P??

Love the fabric choices!! I love triangles for geometric prints, I think you'll be just fine, when it's all put together it will look fab!! Can't wait to see it when you're done.

Thanks, but I only have a few selections from the collection. The main one is the blue mosaic. I pulled other fabrics in from stash and hope they work.
Before anyone responded, I was already debating a chiefly HST quilt that''ll show off the prints against white, or do a D9P. Since I'm a little tired of squares and rectangles at the moment, but still need a fairly quick finish by her bday next month, I'm choosing the HST in a pattern I like. |
I think adding white is the right way to go. It will unify the other fabrics and give the eye both a resting place and a path to follow. Good luck! Please post the finished product!

The quilt with two names - Carpenter Star to me, goes together quite quickly with HST. You can use 8 of your fabrics. I did mine in batiks. Use the other two in the border.

You might consider the X's and O's pattern. I did mine in two colors, but it would look quite good in 10 different fabrics. The white would make your fabrics really stand out.
http://quiltingtutorials.com/wp-cont...02-29-2012.pdf It doesn't use HST though. It uses sort of half snowballs. It is pretty easy, just lots of repetition. Dina |
