Should I serge the edge?

I am making some curtains for our grand son's room. He picked out this see through softer than burlap type of fabric.
It has a finished edge for the top and hem, but the sides will need to be sewn so they don't unravel. I could roll it with a 1/4 fold twice then hem but I am wondering if it will twist and not hang right. And if serging the two sides of each curtain will look good. I plan on using dark green and black thread on the serger. Here is a picture of the fabric, I held it up to the window so you can see how see through it is. We bought it our local Army surplus store. It's a woodland camo print and is quite soft to the touch. Don't mind the heart shaped shadows those aren't in the fabric.....lol |
I would serge it for sure!

You could serge it and then turn it under just the width of the serging and topstitch which is probably what i would do.
Also, if you hem the bottom in a wide hem, it will make them hang better. Can you tell I've made a few curtains and drapes? lol |

Thanks for the advice. I thought about it also after I wrote my first post and I will serge the edges then turn for a finished look.

I would serge all the edges before joining seams or hems. If it is unraveling it may need a very small row of stitches to hold.

I agree, serge the edges!
