Calicos
What are your thoughts on Calico material? Are they "outdated" in todays age of batiks etc?
|
variety is the spice of life. there is room for all genre.
|
Not dated. Just so we are on the same page I consider a calico any small scale print repeated throughout the fabric, (usually floral but can also be geometric or even an animal motif). Color can be monotone blender or high contrast.
With the resurgence of all the repros (Civil war reproductions, 30's, Little house on the prairieetc) they are still offered and constantly coming out with new lines. And even non repro calicos like the Kansas Troubles by Moda are still very popular. I have seen and used myself, mixes of calico, solids and batiks in the same quilt. |
Heaven's no. There are so many sweet calicos, how could we think that? Baby quilts, sunbonnet sue, even girly quilts all require them. Right?

Agree variety is the spice of life....just not sure if this spice is well received by the vast majority! :)
I was talking about lighter color calicos, similar to these: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTEyOFgxMTE0/$(KGrHqJHJC4FCFNEWMkWBQlWPNPjvg~~60_35.JPG |
