Help-Using machine without base?
I have a vintage machine that came in a carrying case with base.
Can it be safely used without the base? It's clunky and pulls the fabric. Any tips use? |
It can be safely used without the base, BUT, not all machines sit level when out of the base.

I'll double check if it sits level...thanks so much! I assumed it was fine, but I'm a "newbie" vintage machinist.

Not all machines can be used without some sort of base. It needs to sit level and have the legs keep the bobbin area off of whatever it's sitting on.

My husband makes a simple frame for my decapitated machines.

I've had no problem with the basic wooden cases? They are a bit clunky, but compared to todays flatbeds they are actually about the same. Freearm models alway look a bit lighter. However, I think the cabinet on my 201 makes a difference, it's so easly to guide and maneuver larger pieces of fabric on it.

Mickey I totally agree with you about using a cabinet. I'm always happiest using a machine in a cabinet with a knee controller. I have two favorites, a Singer cabinet for my 201-2 and 301s, and a generic cabinet set up for my Japanese machines.
