Which Model Singer Do I Have?
 

Can someone please plug in my Singer serial number and tell me which model it is? The Ismaccs site won't work on my phone. The serial number is AH243203. Tks in advance. Cheryl

You have a Model 66 ordered into production on August 25, 1947.

More than likely you have a 66-16. AH 224271-249270 for model 66 Aug 25 1947.
I haven't heard of, or know of, many mistakes with the two alpha serial numbers, but you may want to check your machine against the pictures of an actual 66.

Thanks. I found a manual for the 66-16 and will attempt to clean the thread tensioner assembly. The stitch is straight but not as good as it could be.

I just bought an old Singer in a cabinet and I tried a variety of things to make the stitch better. I was using generic sewing machine needles. I finally put a Singer needle in and now it sews like a dream. I LOVE the older machines that aren't computerized.......and they are all metal instead of plastic. Good luck.

My 66 is not particular when it comes to needles at all, any of the regular brands stitch perfectly, even low priced Chinese made needles stitch fine. Some brands are finer made though, and a bad batch of needles can happen. What sorted out my machine was cleaning the feed dog area and under the bobbin case. After cleaning it's all about tending to the oil points and starting to use the machine. This model gives perfect even stitches on any fabric when sorted out. Make sure you match needle and thread size correctly, it makes all the difference.
