Quilting pattern question

Can anyone explain to me why on the actual picture, there are 4 diagonal lines of stitching per quarter section of block, but on the drawn out diagram, there are only three? What am I missing?

I think she just drew the diagram differently from what she actually sewed. It can be done with however many lines you want, just do the same number in each section. Very interesting site...thanks for sharing.

I agree with Terry. Looks like a couple variations on the same theme. It also looks like if you do the one in the drawn diagram, the quilting path flows from one quadrant to the next If you had an extra line you would need to travel over a previously quilted line, or not do the SITD first.

The sewn sample does have 4 lines but the diagrams only shows 3. You can make as many lines as you want as long as you come back to the starting corner and back track on the center X lines when necessary.

Why would it make a difference to notice? You can add more lines or use less according to the look you wanted.

I would say because the drawing block was smaller than the actual block she was quilting. The distance looked good in the drawing, but when she did the actual quilting, the spacing was too big, so she added another row. I have done that. Love the way she did the quilt!
Great site, by the way!

Looks like you could add or subtract as many lines you needed to depending on the look you want...(sigh) yet another wonderful blog to follow. Thanks for sharing the site.

Thank you everyone for your replies. That explains it. It doesn't take much to confuse a newbie!😉
