Does anyone know the name of this block? I am at a retreat and we are trying to reproduce a quilt just from a picture. This is one of the blocks in the quilt and I would like to know what it is. Thanks for your help. It's not the greatest picture I know.

I think your picture shows "Jacob's Ladder."

I also think it's a simplified Jacob's Ladder. The block normally has additional 4 patch units in the 2 corners where the light color squares are.

It's called Broken Sugar Bowl. You can find the instructions on page 20 on the Quilters Cache website. Enjoy!

I love the names blocks have. Some make perfect sense, like DWR, or drunkard's path and some, like Broken Sugar Bowl, remind me of the names given to constellations. You really have to have a good imagination! Thanks for locating the block! Here's a direct link:

Thank you for the link to the pattern "Broken Sugar Bowl"...I have some red and white that this would be perfect for.
