Hint for drawing animal faces to applique

I'm working on a quilt that originally had bear appliques in the pattern. I am changing the bears to cats, but I was having a really hard time getting the cat faces to look right. My cats all looked sort of like dogs -- maybe because I have 8 dogs but no cats.
What I've done to solve my lack of drawing skills is to download cat photos from the internet and insert them in a word processing program. I then size the photo to the measurements I need in the quilt, print the photo, and trace it. This works like a charm.

What a great idea! I can't draw either, so this is really helpful. Thanks!

I get pictures from my computer and sometimes even use my light thingy to trace and embroider

I have used free coloring book pages found online

I love to buy the large basic coloring books (usually the $2 ones at the grocery store). The have large drawing of animals and things but with very few lines, very easy to add or delete lines.

I also buy large print coloring books, usually from Dollar Store and they are wonderful. I just have to tear the ones I want out first before the grand-kids get the book!

That's a good idea. I save a few steps and trace the photo directly from the monitor screen. Tape a piece of tracing paper to the top of the monitor, trace and you're done.
