Fun project -design a block that looks like a dart!

I'd love to make a quilt for a local dart group to auction. It would benefit the Make A Wish Foundation.

I have to think it would not be difficult to make a couple of theme blocks that look like darts (you know, the kind you throw at a dartboard!)

If I made a couple of those and put them in the middle of a strip quilt like the one below, I think they'd get some serious bids.

It may need to be paper pieced to get the point of the dart. Or maybe I can applique the point on??

I'm thinking the body can be a thin rectangle with a HST near the point. And the tail end could be a square and a HST??

Any brilliant designers in our group?

I'd use the focus blocks to make a quilt like this.

Thanks!!

Here is a sewing needle, you might be able to use it for the dart part. https://trilliumdesign.blogspot.com/...tructions.html

Thanks!! I just made a prototype using yarn for the dart part. I'm not too thrilled with it. In fact, the whole dart looks off to me but I'm not sure why. I think I'll post a picture.

I think I can use the pp'ing for the point though. That may be better than the yarn.

I'm thinking an elongated chevron ... this one is called Double Arrow

with the needle at the point.

Great project!

Great minds DJ. This is what I've come up with so far. Do you think it looks like a dart?

Oh, Tesspug. I printed the pp'ing pattern for the needle but I got stymied figuring how to work that element into what I had. I ended up doing a zig zag stitch for the needle. I think it's ok.

KenmoreGal2: Personally, I would try to narrow down the end of the dart body by the point. I can see what I mean, but can't draw it out for you (I don't know how on the computer). Basically, you would need HST of the background color and the dart body. You want the body to be smaller at the place where the point is attached to the shaft. Hope this is clear????

Can someone help draft my idea, please, so Kenmore can see it? Thanks!

Your dart is and excellent start, I would just sew in a silver fabric in a V shape at the point of your dart instead of the yarn. How about 2 darts and a dart board. I can't find a ready made pattern for the dart board but it shouldn't be to hard to make one up. With paper piecing you could make the black, white and red wedges then embroider the numbers on. I'll keep looking for a pattern that can be modified if necessary.

SewingSenior is on the same track as I am - a silver V. I would place it at the top of the "needle" end and at the bottom of the shaft.

This one might be a good candidate.
