Scraps

I have seen some lovely miniature quilts - and other items made from very small pieces -

When you have leftovers from other projects - what is the smallest scrap that you are willing to keep?

Sometimes I am just tired of the clutter and have strongly considered throwing everything that is left over into the wastebasket. I don't - maybe because I was raised saving the smallest snibble of fabric left over from whatever - but sometimes I am just tired of the scraps.

I have saved down to 1.5" squares. But I really do not use them. So lately only 2" squares.
When it comes to strings I save down to 1".
Also save the corners cut off of HST's as I am working on Bonnie Hunters patterns Wild n Goosey and Pineapple Crazy.

I'm not a scrappy-saving person. I only save scraps where I love the fabric.

i agree ..sometimes i just want to toss it all ..but i don't :)
i save anything that i know i can get a leaf, flower, triangle etcetcetc ..strips about 3/4" wide, irregular shapes about 1" or less ..anything i can get a 3/8ths" seam allowance. i like to do small & smaller plus scrappy embelishments. recently completed 70x80" top of scraps with stash yardage for setting squares & border ..saved almost every single scrap, carefully considering it's possible usefulness in other projects :)

I save everything and use the tinyest pieces to make scarves by sandwiching them between wash away stabilizer and then stitching in a grid so that each tiny piece is attached- takes a while, but they’re fun to do and make nice presents for folks who enjoy playful accessories.

Hey, maybe let The Quilting Marine persuade you to use your scraps up:

I must sheepishly admit that after watching that video I went and fished a bunch of stuff out of the trash can by my sewing machine! :D

If you like him, he's got several videos.

i've watched a few of his videos ..he's such a neat man! but his "scraps" would be stored with the yardage and fat quarters if they were in my house :D

I save everything.
I use crumbs and pieces to make scrappy crumb blocks.
I use everything else as stuffing for dog beds that I donate to our local no-kill shelter.

I usually don't save anything under about 2 inches unless they are strips. Strips go into strip scrap piecing like the Boxes of Strings quilt I am currently piecing. I am NOT saving the bits from squaring up these blocks.

I save everything and my friends give me their scraps ( which is where I get into trouble!) Every time I find neat project ideas using scraps ( even tiny ones) I get gifted with enough scraps to sew for the rest of my natural life. Yes, I'm also doing the Boxes of String pattern.
