Learning to free motion quilt

1 Attachment(s)
:) Hello quilters. I took a class for free motion quilting last august. The quilt in this photo is the fourth quilt I have free motion quilted on my Janome machine. I can see that practice is improving my technique, but it is far from perfect. My college chum Anna gave me the blocks, where were block of the month kits from a Hancocks store. They were not the best quality, as some were smaller than the 12" when I assembled them. I added strips of coordinating cloth to bring the small blocks up to 12" square. I added sashing and borders using fabric leftover from earlier quilts. I like how it turned out. I gave the quilt to the president of the Parent Advisory Council at a Chicago Public School, to thank her for all the hours and hard work she's put into helping the school

Oh, I like that quilt a whole lot! Love the colors & the variety of block patterns. She will really appreciate your gift of thanks. Your FM quilting looks fabulous.

The quilt turned out great. Unless you tell them, no one will ever know the fabric was poor quality or that you had to add to the blocks. You definitely took lemons and made some lemonade. Job well done.

Bravo! That's a cheerful quilt, homey looking with the traditional blocks, and shows patience in your FMQ. Well done. And as an educator, I say thank you for rewarding someone in the school system. I'm sure she will really appreciate it.

Adding small strips to the blocks to bring them all to the 12" size was so smart. Lovely quilt and quilting..sure to be cherished.
